IJsselmeer: a spatial perspective looks at the area from various angles: geomorphology, history, planning and the economy. The book studies spatial features, presents design proposals for the future, and at the same time considers the dynamics of the metropolitan region into which the area has merged, the stagnating ecosystem, the impact of climate change and the increasing pressure of recreational activities. The drawings, maps and photographs in the book are not just illustrations, but a essential part of what it has to tell us: they ‘describe’ the landscape as it used to be, is now and may yet become.
