Territory as a Project 2021
A sharp blade cuts through the project of the territory displacing our gaze. Inland, Seward starts from that elsewhere to attempt a rewriting of a narrative of the here and now. It invites us to look and not just see the current state of matter, topos, habitat, geopolitics, and economies of life so to allow ownership of the gaze and guidance of the movement. It lays bare the limits of the notion of the territorial project as a separate terrestrial or maritime activity. Since there is no absolute truth, no exclusive narrative, no dominant voice. Instead, there is a continuum that urgently awaits to be recognized. Notwithstanding the gradual acknowledgment of the concept of “territorial cohesion” and the various initiatives that have tried to draw practical implications, the canvas is yet to be defined. Inland, Seaward invites us to contemplate the continuum as the canvas from which to start. Its substance is composed by words, images, voices, and desires asking to be read, looked at, heard and embraced. Necessarily, the gaze transforms. No longer in search of a reassuring focal point, but free to reach out to the bare necessity of being. Movement follows in a gesture of profound respect.
The exhibition displays the work developed so far on five dimensions of the territorial project. Each dimension is accessed through text, image, or sound.
