Chris Zevenbergen, Professor Delta Urbanism and IHE Delft Professor of Flood Resilience of Urban Systems, delivered the Valedictory Address at Delft University of Technology to mark his retirement following a career spanning almost four decades. The valedictory was titled Urban Flood Risk Management by Design, focused on paradigm changes of the past 30-40 years in the science and practice of water management and delta management. He gave insight on this affects engineers and water professionals, and their education.

In celebration of his work he was awarded the title of ‘Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw’ (Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion) by Mayor Bram Diepstraten. AD and Waterforum published news articles about the royal honour.

Chris was our ambassador and accelerator and he will be missed in the Delta Urbanism group.
